Job summary

bp invites a Non-Energy Optimization Specialist to Houston, focusing on portfolio management for retail electricity and profitability analysis. You will hedge, optimize, and model exposures across RA, MTR, and capacity, while supporting regulatory filings and pricing teams.

You will leverage Excel VBA, SQL, and possibly Python to drive analytics, risk assessment, and decision support in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a quantitative field such as math, statistics, economics, quantitative finance or engineering.
• Mid-level experience in an analytical or commercially focused role.
• Retail supply experience or similar commercial experience required.
• Working knowledge of CAISO RA & MTR regulatory landscape preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ISO markets (CAISO, PJM, NYISO).
• Excel VBA and SQL proficiency; Python preferred.
• Analytical skills for risk assessment.
• Experience with ETRM systems preferred.
• Team-oriented with cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficient in collecting, querying, visualizing and analyzing data.

Responsibilities

• Manage retail portfolio of power products (RA, MTR, capacity) and related trades.
• Transact bilaterally and on exchange to hedge and optimize portfolio.
• Handle regulatory filings for CAISO RA & MTR.
• Maintain non-energy curves (congestion, capacity, RA).
• Provide market information to pricing teams and customers.
• Develop models for optimization and risk hedging strategies.
• Record non-energy trades in ETRM; support load forecasting exposure reporting.
• Explain variances during actualization and ensure regulatory compliance.
