Job summary

The City and County of Denver is seeking a Peer Support Specialist Apprentice in Downtown Denver. This limited-term role focuses on building recovery-oriented, person-centered support and connecting clients with housing, health services, and community resources.

Ideal candidates bring lived experience with mental health or substance use challenges, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn. Hybrid work model with on-site days and rotation across divisions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of peer support experience.
• Ability to engage with diverse communities and maintain documentation.

Responsibilities

• Build person-centered, trauma-informed relationships with clients using a peer support model.
• Apply SAMHSA Core Competencies and national practice standards for peers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to provide holistic support.
• Leverage lived experience to connect clients with resources and recovery services.
• Partner with clients to set goals, identify resources, and monitor progress.
• Develop individualized support plans and connect clients to community resources.
• Coordinate access to services and accompany clients to appointments.
• Maintain accurate documentation in line with standards.
• Complete CPFS training curriculum and pass CPFS exam.
• Participate in Colorado School of Public Health micro-credentialling.
• Rotate to divisions/departments for 6-month terms.
