Job summary

Ampacity is seeking a Payroll Specialist to assist with accurate, compliant payroll processing for Ampacity's growing team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you'll oversee weekly payroll cycles, garnishments, and serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll questions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of payroll processing experience with deadline-driven cycles.
• Experience with construction payroll is a plus.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Windows; NetSuite and HeavyJob a plus.
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate across teams.
• Maintain confidentiality of payroll information.
• Self-starter who can prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work onsite 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Calculate weekly per diem, travel and mileage with accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage weekly garnishments and court-ordered payments; reconcile monthly.
• Process weekly vehicle allowances and payroll advances.
• Monitor unemployment claims and respond to state inquiries.
• Assist with payroll tax audits and documentation.
• Investigate and respond to payroll tax notices with the team.
• Review quarterly tax reports and reconcile with docs.
• Assist with testing new payroll tax software.
• Provide backup for other payroll team members.
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting on payroll strategy and improvements.
