Job summary

Ampacity is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support accurate, compliant payroll for our growing team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will oversee weekly payroll cycles, garnishments, and serve as the primary contact for payroll questions.

This partially remote role is 1-2 days onsite weekly at our Monterey Bay HQ. The position emphasizes detail, multi-priority management, and timely deadlines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of payroll processing experience, with deadline-driven cycles.
• Experience with construction is a plus.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Windows; NetSuite and HeavyJob (HCSS) experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills to resolve discrepancies.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality.
• Self-starter who can prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work onsite 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Calculate weekly per diem, travel and mileage with accuracy.
• Manage weekly garnishments and court-ordered calculations; reconcile monthly.
• Process weekly vehicle allowances and payroll advances.
• Monitor unemployment claims and respond to state inquiries.
• Assist with payroll tax audits and documentation.
• Investigate payroll tax notices and coordinate resolutions.
• Review quarterly tax reports and reconcile with docs.
• Assist with testing new payroll tax software.
• Provide backup for payroll team members.
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting on payroll strategies.
• Stay updated on payroll laws and compliance.
• Create and maintain SOPs and procedures.
• Attend departmental meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
