Job summary

Rhode Island Medical Imaging in Warwick, RI is seeking a part-time Authorization specialist to obtain prior authorizations, verify insurance, and assist patients with coverage questions. Training will occur on-site at the corporate office in Warwick, with a transition to a hybrid schedule after approval.

A shift differential applies for some evening hours between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, and Saturday morning coverage is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of third-party billing requirements.
• Ability to handle delicate patient payments sensitively.
• Adaptability to changing collection rules per state/federal law.
• Team-oriented collaboration.
• Ability to prioritize workloads and make decisions.
• Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills.
• Bilingual capability is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companies for selected exams and document in the system.
• Obtain insurance verifications and estimate out-of-pocket costs for patients before exams.
• Explain out-of-pocket expenses to patients and record accounts accordingly.
• Assist patients with benefits and payment questions professionally.
• Run daily eligibility reports to verify insurance information.
• Utilize billing/scheduling software to maintain workflow efficiency.
• Understand HCFA 1500 and payor billing guidelines.
