Job summary

Above the Bar is expanding its IP team and welcomes patent agents and attorneys at various experience levels. The firm operates as a full‑service IP practice with hybrid work options and offices in San Diego, Orange County, Silicon Valley, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, or Washington, DC.

The opportunity requires ~4+ years of patent drafting/prosecution, a technical degree (EE/CompE/CS/physics), USPTO registration, and, for attorneys, active bar status in the applicable state.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on patent drafting and prosecution.
• USPTO registration is required.
• A technical degree in EE, CompE, CS or physics; other degrees acceptable for AI/related work.
• For attorney candidates: active and in good standing with the bar in a state where the firm has an office.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patents for electrical, software, or AI domains.
• Collaborate directly with founders, engineers, and in-house counsel.
• Provide strategic IP input and communicate with clients about IP strategy.
