Job summary

Verizon is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to join the GN&T Network Security Defense team. You will lead real-time threat monitoring, incident response, and vulnerability management across Core, Edge, and Access networks.

The role emphasizes robust security architecture, MFA, IAM, and automation to strengthen defenses. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of relevant experience, strong Splunk SPL skills, and familiarity with NIST/SANS incident response lifecycles, SOAR automation, and scripting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant experience.
• Ability to write complex, optimized Splunk SPL searches and data models.
• Knowledge of incident response lifecycles (NIST/SANS) with automation playbooks (SOAR).
• Experience with risk-based alerting, asset/identity correlation, and tuning searches.

Responsibilities

• Identify gaps and lead design/architecture of security solutions.
• Create formal guidelines, policies and procedures for operations.
• Implement scalable security solutions across Core, Edge and Access networks.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering and Planning to embed secure patterns in deployments.
• Mentor junior engineers and document technical tasks.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Lead network security incident response activities and playbooks.
• Develop threat detections with SIEM to improve alert fidelity and reduce false positives.
• Drive improvements in network visibility and telemetry.
• Perform regular security control assessments and close gaps.
