Job summary

MCNC is seeking a Network Architect/Engineer to join the Network Architecture and Management team in Durham. The role supports development of data-network service offerings for NCREN, reporting to the Director of Network Architecture and Management.

Qualifications

Has a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Has 5+ years of progressive experience in data networking in a service provider environment.
Has hands-on experience designing data/telecommunications networks and/or developing data network/telecommunications service offerings.
Possesses outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Possesses outstanding analytical skills.
Can create detailed reports, diagrams, system documentation, white papers, solution briefs, etc.
Has significant demonstrable experience with data networking in Internet Service Provider environments.
Has demonstrable experience with Carrier Ethernet, BGP, IS-IS, EoMPLS, VPLS, MPLS L3 VPN, EVPN, GRE, BGP FlowSpec, etc.
Has demonstrable experience with carrier class routers and switches (e.g., Cisco ASR 9000, 8000, NCS 540, ASR 920).
Has demonstrable experience with IOS XR and IOS XE.
Has demonstrable experience with Linux/Unix.
Has demonstrable experience with scripting languages with an emphasis on network automation.
Understands how to engineer solutions within budget and time constraints.
Completes assignments on time or ahead of schedule.
Is extremely detail oriented, but sees the big picture.
Is a strong team player and can also work independently as needed.
Is comfortable in a dynamic fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

Participates or leads in developing data networking/telecommunications service offerings within MCNC’s framework.
Participates or leads in proof-of-concept labs and related activities.
Supports NCREN operations by ensuring the quality of network device software and configurations, security posture, and best practices.
Participates or leads Pre-Sales Engineering activities as required.
Participates or leads in creating network equipment bills of material.
Participates or leads in developing network device capital budgets.
Participates or leads in preparing technical responses to RFIs/RFPs/IFBs and technical requirement sections.
Represents MCNC at research and education-focused events as required.
Performs other duties as prescribed.
