Job summary

Mainspring Energy, Inc. seeks a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to advance the design, test, and manufacturing of its linear generators. You will build numerical models, validate controls, and enable faster, more reliable simulations for system design.

You will collaborate across software, mechanical design, and product teams, applying strong math, coding, and simulation skills to reduce development time and improve performance in a hybrid onsite/remote setup at our Menlo Park headquarters.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with a strong foundation in applied mathematics.
• 5+ years of practical experience across multiple physical domains relevant to linear generators.
• Familiarity with numerical modeling techniques and using packages like Simulink, Dymola, GT-Power, NPSS.
• Experience designing, writing, and validating custom models in high-level languages (Fortran, C/C++, Python, Julia, etc).

Responsibilities

• Determine dynamic response of generator system to control commands; write numerical models for simulation.
• Coordinate with controls engineers; navigate C++ inputs and controller responses.
• Develop test plans; oversee execution on generator with test team support.
• Write and debug solvers for ODEs/DAEs.
• Architect custom simulation environments; optimize simulations and reduced-order models.
• Model conservation equations in languages like Python and C++.
• Participate in robust development processes and code peer review.
• Produce documentation of model design and simulation results for diverse audiences.
