Job summary

Stantec seeks a Mine Planning Intern to support the Mining, Minerals & Metals team in Reno, Nevada. You will gain hands-on experience in both underground and open pit mine planning, assisting with schedules, designs, and technical evaluations across North America, while learning industry-standard software.

The role emphasizes collaboration in multidisciplinary teams, data analysis, and cost estimating, with a hybrid work arrangement and periodic in-person events.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Mining Engineering.
• Completed at least two years of undergrad coursework.
• Interest in underground and open pit mine planning.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
• Familiarity with mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Datamine) is a plus.
• Strong MS Excel/Word/PowerPoint skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with open pit and underground mine plans development.
• Support production scheduling and sequencing evaluations.
• Assist with mine design updates and optimization studies.
• Prepare mine planning figures, layouts, and presentations.
• Support analysis of mining methods and equipment selections.
• Compile and evaluate production, cost, and operating data.
• Assist with trade-off studies and engineering evaluations.
• Assist in developing capital and operating cost estimates.
• Prepare technical study reports and client deliverables.
• Participate in project meetings and multidisciplinary discussions.
