Trueline in Chicago seeks an experienced MEP Preconstruction Manager to lead design-phase efforts for multiple commercial projects, integrating MEP systems with Lean Design Delivery and BIM/VDC tools.

You will collaborate with owners, mentor design engineers, and guide estimating and scheduling activities while traveling up to 70% and operating within a hybrid work model in a growing firm booked through 2030.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of construction experience.
• 5+ years in estimating or on-site project management, including 1–2 years as a Preconstruction Manager.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems.
• Willingness to travel up to 70% and work in the office Tue–Thu.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Manage design phase for concurrent commercial projects, including estimating, design development, quality control, and MEP commissioning planning.
• Work with owners to define project expectations and success factors.
• Solicit, select, and contract designers on design-build projects.
• Develop and lead the preparation and presentation of project proposals.
• Build detailed design-phase and baseline construction schedules.
• Lead construction planning, including contract manual, subcontractor selection, and Lean Design Delivery with BIM/VDC.
• Guide design teams to incorporate constructability and logistics into design.
• Lead estimating team members on the design side, including drawings, specifications, scheduling, and cost documentation.
• Manage design-phase costs through estimating, value engineering, life-cycle analysis, and budget management.
• Secure regulatory approvals, manage insurance/bonding requirements, and implement LEED tracking.
• Supervise and develop Design Phase Engineers, including performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
• Set tone for exceptional customer relationships and identify future project opportunities.
