Job summary

HLZAE, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Milrose Consultants, LLC, is seeking a MEP Forensics Engineer (Project Associate) in New York, NY. The role focuses on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and evaluating building MEP systems, with field work and reporting responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has 1–5 years in MEP engineering, knowledge of NYC codes, and the ability to develop practical repair and upgrade solutions. Hybrid schedule; salary $80k–$100k plus benefits.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, or related MEP Engineering.
• 1–5 years of experience in MEP engineering, forensic engineering, building systems consulting, facility assessments, commissioning, or related field.
• Knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Strong ability to evaluate and troubleshoot building system deficiencies and performance issues.
• Familiarity with NYC Building Codes and regulatory requirements.
• NYC scaffold certifications or equivalent are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support forensic investigations, condition assessments, and failure analyses of MEP systems (HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing, electrical, fire protection).
• Assist in evaluating existing MEP systems for deficiencies, performance issues, and code compliance.
• Participate in field investigations, collect data, diagnose issues, and support repair/upgrade recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports and communicate observations and solutions clearly.
• Assist with code reviews and compliance assessments involving NYC Codes.
• Perform field inspections in mechanical spaces and other challenging site conditions.
• Collaborate with project teams, clients, architects and engineers in a fast-paced environment.
