Job summary

The N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) has an opening for an Operating Systems Software Programmer II (NS) in North Carolina. The role installs and maintains mainframe software on z/OS, plans upgrades, and administers RACF-based security.

You will partner with vendors and internal teams to ensure reliability and security in a 24x7 environment. This statutory exempt EHRA position may offer hybrid remote work with weekly on-site requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field from an accredited institution.
Four years of progressive experience in systems software programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associate degree with five years progressive experience in systems software programming.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain enterprise mainframe software on z/OS per standards and guidelines.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate software upgrades and system changes with vendors and teams.
Implement and administer RACF security and related interfaces with security and apps teams.
Monitor and optimize system software performance using specialized tools and tuning recommendations.
Diagnose and resolve complex issues, perform root-cause analysis with vendors, and restore service.
Prepare technical documentation, guides, and bulletins for stakeholders.
