Job summary

The NYC Public Health Laboratory, a unit of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is seeking a Junior Bioinformatics Scientist to support infectious disease genomics. You will assist with analyses of sequencing data and contribute to tools for pathogen identification and outbreak tracking.

Qualifications include a Master’s in biological sciences or public health and experience with Linux, R, Python, SQL, and Docker-based workflows.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in biological sciences or public health.
• Doctorate or 2–3 years of research experience with supervision for Assignment Level II.
• New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bioinformatics analyses for sequencing data supporting public health.
• Develop tools for pathogen identification, outbreak tracking, and genome annotation.
• Collaborate on genomics data management and DPHL data repositories.
• Draft SOPs and maintain documentation for software tools.
