Job summary

Georgetown University’s Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) seeks an instructional design and technology specialist to support online, on-campus, remote, and hybrid programs. This role focuses on advancing the quality of course design, development and implementation.

Responsibilities include aligning goals with activities, recommending instructional strategies, assisting SMEs with resources, developing Canvas templates, and managing milestones.

Qualifications

• Master’s in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related discipline.
• 5-7 years’ experience at higher education institutions as an instructional developer designing /developing online courses and programs.
• 3+ years’ experience evaluating course development quality using an established rubric (e.g. Quality Matters, OLC Scorecard).
• Excellent understanding of instructional design principles, online pedagogy, learning theory, emerging brain / cognitive / learning science, the arts, and technology that influence design learning environments, coupled with experience applying this knowledge to real world projects
• Excellent learning design abilities and visual design sense.
• Must have ability to design and develop engaging and interactive online courses by drawing on a strong working knowledge of instructional design theories, methodologies, and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the development of course goals/objectives; ensure the content and activities/assessments match objectives.
• Recommend instructional strategies and pedagogical uses of online tools that support student learning.
• Help SMEs locate appropriate supplemental materials for courses, such as open educational resources.
• Develop the Canvas template with graphics/banners and upload content.
• Maintain project milestones and timeline; communicate progress and concerns.
• Prepare SME as s/he transitions into the instructor role.
