Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks a Hydrogeologist to oversee the assessment and remediation of pre-1983 landfill sites in the PRLF program. The role manages contractors, reviews plans and reports, and ensures hydrogeologic integrity and regulatory compliance.

Travel within the state is required. Minimum education includes a Bachelor's in geology or related field; licensure as a Professional Geologist may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or related field; licensure as a Professional Geologist may be required.
• Experience with regulatory environmental programs and remediation projects is preferred.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical management and oversight of PRLF site assessment and remediation by independent contractors.
• Review work plans, reports, and data; ensure regulatory compliance and sound hydrogeologic design.
• Coordinate risk assessments, develop risk management plans, and communicate with the public and property owners.
