Job summary

Fuss & O’Neill, a leading New England-based consulting firm, seeks a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC design experience to join our MEP team in a hybrid role. You’ll develop HVAC designs, perform load calculations, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver building projects.

You’ll work 3–4 days in the office with periodic fieldwork, apply codes and standards, and contribute to energy-efficiency projects while advancing your career with ongoing learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably within an HVAC consulting environment.
  • EIT certification or progress toward obtaining an EIT preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit or other BIM software preferred
  • Experience with HVAC load calculation software, such as Trane TRACE, preferred.
  • Experience with plumbing design, energy efficiency, or energy modeling is a plus.
  • Willingness to work approximately 3–4 days per week in the office and travel periodically for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develop HVAC designs and engineering solutions for commercial, institutional, and other building projects, including load calculations, equipment sizing, and technical analysis.
  • Create and update mechanical drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit, coordinating designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and other disciplines.
  • Conduct weekly field investigations and site visits, and support construction administration through site observations, submittal reviews, RFIs, and related project activities.
  • Manage assigned design tasks independently while collaborating with senior engineers on technical decisions, quality control, and final design review.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, technical reports, and project documentation while applying applicable codes and standards, including IBC, IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and IECC.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, while supporting plumbing and energy-efficiency projects as opportunities arise.
