Job summary

Fuss & O’Neill, a leading New England‑based consulting firm, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join our MEP team in Hartford, CT. This role focuses on HVAC design and coordination across multiple building projects, with opportunities in plumbing and energy efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
• 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in HVAC consulting.
• EIT certification or progress toward obtaining an EIT is preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit or other BIM software preferred.
• Experience with HVAC load calculation software such as Trane TRACE is a plus.
• Experience with plumbing design, energy efficiency, or energy modeling is a plus.
• Willingness to work approximately 3–4 days per week in the office and travel periodically for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Develop HVAC designs and engineering solutions for commercial and institutional projects, including load calculations and equipment sizing.
• Create and update mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and Revit, coordinating with other disciplines.
• Conduct weekly field investigations and site visits, and support construction administration through site observations and submittal reviews.
• Manage assigned design tasks independently while collaborating with senior engineers on technical decisions and QA.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, technical reports, and project documentation per codes and standards (IBC, IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IECC).
• Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and contractors, supporting plumbing and energy-efficiency projects when opportunities arise.
