Job summary

Aon is seeking a Senior Scientist - Hurricane Model Developer for its Impact Forecasting team. This hybrid role allows virtual work with in‑office options in Boston or Chicago.

You will develop catastrophe models for hurricanes, analyze large meteorological datasets, and implement automated workflows to improve risk insights and client solutions. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams, translating complex results into actionable insights while contributing to model

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent industry experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience developing or enhancing catastrophe/risk models.
  • Strong quantitative analysis using statistical or computational methods.
  • Programming in Python, MATLAB, or R with workflow automation.
  • Ability to handle large meteorological datasets and derive actionable insights.
  • Ability to document methods and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance hurricane and tropical cyclone catastrophe models.
  • Build and improve model components to estimate insurance losses.
  • Process and analyze large meteorological and geospatial datasets.
  • Automate data processing and forecasting workflows for efficiency.
  • Maintain modeling datasets with governance and documentation.
  • Apply climate science research to improve catastrophe models.
  • Use Python, SQL, and related tools for analysis and automation.
  • Communicate methods and results to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver modeling enhancements on schedule.
  • Stay current with atmospheric science and climate research trends.
