Job summary

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Meteorology, Climate Science, Oceanography, Earth Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience developing, analyzing, or enhancing catastrophe models, risk models, or related scientific modeling solutions.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills with statistics or computational methods.
  • Experience programming in Python, MATLAB, R, or similar languages, including workflows or automation.
  • Experience processing large meteorological, geospatial, and insurance datasets.
  • Experience conducting scientific research and translating findings into practical modeling applications.
  • Clear communication of technical information through reports, docs, and presentations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while managing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance hurricane and tropical cyclone catastrophe models, including stochastic event generation and wind field modeling.
  • Build, maintain, and improve model components used to quantify catastrophe risk and losses.
  • Prepare, transform, and analyze large meteorological and geospatial datasets for research.
  • Develop and optimize automated data processing and forecasting workflows.
  • Maintain modeling datasets with governance, documentation, and accessibility.
  • Implement data quality controls, validation, and performance testing for model outputs.
  • Incorporate climate science research into models to assess future losses.
  • Use Python, SQL, and related tools to support analysis and automation.
  • Conduct quantitative analyses to identify risk drivers and uncertainty.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver enhancements and research aligned with timelines.
  • Document methodologies and results in technical reports.
