Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner I to administer HR processes for assigned units, support recruitment, onboarding, and benefits, and communicate policies to managers and staff. The HRBP I will handle routine issues, assist with leave administration, performance processes, and data entry in the HRIS, while escalating complex matters to senior colleagues.

This hybrid, full-time position is based in Amherst and reports to the Human Resources

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree and four (4) years of human resources-related experience or Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related experience.
• Experience interpreting HR policies and advising managers.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a frontline HR contact within the unit and explains HR policies to managers and staff.
• Supports recruitment efforts and ensures requisitions are properly managed in the ATS.
• Leads onboarding and orientation for new hires and follows up to ensure smooth transitions.
• Advises on leave of absence policies and administers related processes.
• Conducts exit interviews and analyzes turnover data for improvement.
• Supports annual performance review processes and ensures timely evaluations.
• Enters and approves personnel actions in the HRIS with accurate data.
• Develops reports and data to support HR initiatives.
• Collaborates with HR colleagues to standardize service delivery across the University.
