Job summary

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City seeks an experienced High Performance Computing Engineer to plan, implement, and maintain advanced cyberinfrastructure for economic research. You will work with researchers to translate computational needs into scalable HPC solutions using SLURM, Ceph/GPFS, and container technologies.

Ideal candidates have strong Linux expertise, scripting skills (Python, Bash), and experience with parallel programming models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS/engineering/math or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant HPC admin and systems engineering experience.
• Extensive experience with Linux (Red Hat/CentOS) in HPC environments.
• Strong command line skills and scripting in Python and Bash.
• Experience with job scheduling systems (SLURM, PBS, LSF) and resource management.
• Knowledge of parallel file systems and storage technologies (Ceph, GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS).
• Familiarity with MPI/OpenMP and scientific computing frameworks.
• Experience with configuration management/automation tools (Salt, Ansible, Puppet).
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and administer medium-scale HPC clusters and storage systems.
• Monitor system health, performance metrics, and resource utilization.
• Implement security protocols and perform upgrades/patching.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in a multi-user research environment.
• Manage job scheduling and workload optimization using SLURM.
• Administer parallel file systems and storage solutions (Ceph, GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS).
• Design and implement HPC solutions; create automation tools for administration.
• Optimize scientific applications and workflows for performance.
• Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing across teams.
