Job summary

Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a senior research computing facilitator to work with economists in deploying state‑of‑the‑art computational systems, tools, and software for research productivity.

You will co-create computing capabilities, reduce barriers to HPC usage, and accelerate time-to-publication through software optimization and modern techniques. Expect collaboration across teams and strong interaction with researchers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a computational field (Computer Science, Computational Economics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or related).
• Proficiency in multiple programming and scripting languages (Python, R, Matlab, C, Stata, SQL, or equivalent).
• Experience with AI tools and practical use of large language models for research.
• Strong communication to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• Experience with Linux command line and terminal usage.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitLab).
• Knowledge of HPC environments and GPU-accelerated workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to economists and research associates through consultations.
• Co-author research papers under guidance of economists.
• Facilitate design, debugging, and optimization of research workflows and software models.
• Implement software parallelization and performance improvements to speed up publications.
• Support adoption of cloud computing and AI tools in research workflows.
• Communicate with research staff and collaborate across teams on computational approaches.
