Job summary

Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc. (HIP) in Maryland seeks a Housing & Financial Counselor to provide comprehensive housing counseling and financial coaching. The role includes program reporting, data quality, performance monitoring, and staff training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in housing or financial counseling/coaching.
• Financial counseling or coaching certification required.
• HUD Housing Counselor Certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
• Knowledge of budgeting, credit improvement, debt reduction, savings, and goal setting.
• Experience with program reporting, data analysis, performance monitoring, or outcome measurement preferred.
• Experience training, mentoring, or providing technical assistance to staff preferred.
• Strong counseling, analytical, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, reporting requirements, and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and client management databases; Bonterra Apricot experience preferred.
• Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Passion for HIP’s mission and serving low/moderate-income households.

Responsibilities

• Provide rental, pre-purchase, foreclosure prevention, and post-purchase counseling.
• Help clients with budgeting, debt reduction, credit building, and savings strategies.
• Monitor program data and prepare required reports for funders.
• Train counseling staff on financial coaching and documentation requirements.
• Maintain client files and data entry in client management systems.
• Assist with Bonterra Apricot and other data-management tools.
• Support HIP’s HUD-approved housing counseling agency compliance.
