Qualifications

• BA/BS plus at least 6 years of experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience solving complex problems using technology, resources, process improvement and people’s skills.
• Experience supervising and managing a team, including hiring, training, rewarding, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging.
• Experience working with faculty researchers to address research needs for pre-award activities.
• Experience submitting research proposals to a wide variety of funders.
• Experience with human subjects research as it pertains to grant proposals requirements.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid capacity on the UMN Twin Cities campus.
• Grants & contracts knowledge as it relates to higher education and nursing.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise grants and contract staff and manage ONRS staff responsibilities and timelines for upcoming submissions.
• Optimize pre-award processes to improve efficiency and reduce friction.
• Develop and track research impact metrics for the School of Nursing for benchmarking and reporting.
• Advise faculty researchers on sponsor portfolios, submission timing, and project team composition.
• Build strong relationships with faculty researchers to understand their long-term objectives and funding opportunities.
• Lead 2–4 pre-award proposals end-to-end during peak deadlines.
• Coordinate with post-award staff and sponsor agencies for approvals and changes.
• Master grant submission platforms and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
• Draft proposed budgets and track budget expenditures for ONRS programs.
• Lead team meetings, mentor early-career faculty, and create proposal templates and guidance.
