What You Will Do

Southern Cross is hiring NOW for a full-time position that includes surveying natural gas pipelines and the opportunity to travel around the country driving our Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. This dual role as a gas leak survey technician and driver requires flexibility to work days and nights as needed.

Driving assignments vary from 3 days to 6 months and are primarily at night. You will receive per diem for meals and approved expenses, paid travel, and hotel accommodations. The Field Service Technician will fly or drive to AMLD assignments based on distance. Some comfort with technology and a willingness to learn in a technical environment are essential. Expect to drive nightly, typically 8 hours per day on a 3rd shift (sundown - early morning).

Technicians will also be cross-trained in traditional gas leak survey skills. These assignments are varied and mostly during the day.

Training lasts 4-5 weeks (paid), covering detection and classification of natural gas leaks, walking 5 or more miles daily, working outdoors in all weather conditions, including urban, rural, and challenging terrains such as tall grass, uneven surfaces, fields, city sidewalks, alleyways, and encountering wildlife.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Travel up to 75% of the time, including occasional weekends.
• Ability to fly/drive nationwide.
• Mechanically inclined with troubleshooting skills.
• Drive in all weather conditions.
• Follow all safety and quality policies.
• Learn training material via classroom or online and pass qualification tests.
• Comfortable driving survey vehicle at 15 mph for 4 hours with breaks.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Sit and drive 8 hours daily.
• Bend, crouch, kneel, and walk several miles daily.
• Carry at least 20 lbs. of equipment.
• Communicate courteously with customers, providing excellent service.
• Follow company and client procedures.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Availability for overtime, including weekends.
• Comfortable using computers and technology.

What You Will Earn

• Starting pay at $18.25/hour, with increases of $0.50 at 60 and 180 days.
• Night shift differential increases pay by $1.00.
• $40 daily per diem for meals and expenses during travel, plus paid travel and hotel accommodations.
• $2.00/hour travel stipend when staying in hotels.
