What You Will Do

Southern Cross is hiring NOW for a full-time position that includes surveying natural gas pipelines and traveling to various locations around the country to operate our Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. This dual role as a gas leak survey technician and driver requires flexibility to work days and nights as needed based on assigned roles.

Driving assignments vary from 3 days to 6 months and are primarily conducted at night. You will receive per diem for meals and approved expenses, paid travel, and hotel accommodations. The Field Service Technician may fly or drive to AMLD assignments depending on the distance from home. Some comfort with technology and a willingness to learn in a technical environment are essential. Expect to drive nightly for about 8 hours, typically on a 3rd shift (sundown - early morning).

Additionally, technicians will be cross-trained in traditional gas leak survey techniques. Gas Leak Survey assignments will vary in duration and are mainly performed during the day.

Training lasts typically 4-5 weeks (paid), covering accurate detection and classification of natural gas leaks, walking 5 or more miles daily, working outdoors in all weather conditions and environments such as vehicular traffic, residential and commercial areas, rural fields, city sidewalks, alleyways, and occasionally encountering animals and wildlife.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Travel up to 75% of the time, including occasional weekends.
• Ability to fly or drive anywhere in the U.S.
• Mechanically inclined with troubleshooting skills for technology.
• Drive in all weather conditions.
• Follow all safety and quality policies and procedures.
• Learn training material via classroom or online courses and pass all qualification tests.
• Drive survey vehicle at 15 mph for 4 hours straight, with breaks.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Ability to sit and drive 8 hours daily.
• Bend, crouch, kneel, and walk several miles per day.
• Carry at least 20 lbs. of equipment.
• Communicate effectively with customers, showing excellent customer service.
• Follow all company and client procedures.
• Possess excellent communication skills.
• Be available for overtime, including weekends.
• Be comfortable using computers and technology.

What You Will Earn

• Starting pay at $18.25/hour, with increases of $0.50 at 60 and 180 days.
• Night shift pay differential increases pay by $1.00 when driving nights.
• $40.00 daily per diem for meals and expenses when traveling, plus paid travel and hotel accommodations for AMLD assignments.
• $2.00/hour travel stipend when staying in hotels.
