What You Will Do

Southern Cross is hiring NOW for a full-time position that includes surveying natural gas pipelines and traveling to various locations around the country to operate our Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. This dual role as a gas leak survey technician and driver requires flexibility to work days and nights as needed.

Driving assignments vary from 3 days to 6 months, mainly at night. You will receive per diem for meals and approved expenses, paid travel, and hotel accommodations. The Field Service Technician will travel by plane or drive to AMLD assignments based on distance from home. Some comfort with technology and a willingness to learn in a technical environment are essential. Typically, you will drive approximately 8 hours per night during a 3rd shift (sundown to early AM).

Additionally, technicians will be cross-trained in traditional gas leak survey techniques. Gas Leak Survey assignments are varied and primarily conducted during the day.

Training lasts 4-5 weeks (paid), during which you'll learn to detect and classify natural gas leaks, walk 5 or more miles daily, and work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments including vehicular traffic, residential and commercial areas, rural fields, city sidewalks, alleyways, and sometimes encountering wildlife and dogs.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Travel up to 75% of the time, including occasional weekends.
• Ability to fly or drive anywhere in the U.S.
• Mechanically inclined with troubleshooting skills for technology.
• Drive in all weather conditions safely.
• Follow all safety and quality policies and procedures.
• Learn training materials in classroom or online formats and pass qualification tests.
• Comfortable driving survey vehicles at 15 mph for extended periods with breaks.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Ability to sit and drive 8 hours daily.
• Bend, crouch, kneel, and walk several miles per day.
• Carry a minimum of 20 lbs. of equipment.
• Communicate effectively with customers courteously, providing excellent customer service.
• Follow all company/client procedures.
• Possess excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Be available for overtime, including weekends.
• Comfortable using computers and technology.

What You Will Earn

• Starting pay is $18.25/hour, increasing by $0.50 at 60 and 180 days.
• Night shift pay increases by $1.00.
• $40.00 daily per diem for meals and approved expenses when traveling, plus paid travel and hotel accommodations during AMLD assignments.
• $2.00/hour travel stipend when staying in hotels.
