Job summary

Knott Laboratory in Chicago seeks a licensed Mechanical Engineer (P.E.) to join its Premises Liability team, applying mechanical engineering, safety, and forensic analysis to real-world incidents.

You will investigate workplace injuries and access-related incidents on commercial and industrial premises, evaluating equipment, access systems, and site conditions to determine incident causation and conformity with codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Five or more years of relevant forensics/engineering experience.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and evaluating accidents or safety conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and field investigations of workplace injuries and premises liability incidents.
  • Investigate accessibility-related incidents and evaluate site conditions for compliance.
  • Evaluate design, installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of equipment and building systems.
  • Analyze evidence, measurements, photos, video, and records to identify causes.
  • Prepare clear, defensible technical reports and presentations for technical and nontechnical audiences.
