Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design comprehensive fire protection and life safety systems for federal and private projects. The role supports project teams across multiple offices, with a hybrid work environment and travel as required.

You will develop hazard analyses, perform hydraulic calculations, and ensure designs comply with NFPA/UFC standards. Mentoring junior staff and collaborating with sales are key aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience may substitute for a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs including water supply, hydraulic analyses, and sprinkler systems.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects, providing life safety and fire analysis.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC, and local regulations; sign off.
• Collaborate with sales to create proposals and review drafts for compliance.
• Perform site assessments and liaise with clients on design needs.
• Mentor junior staff and supervise engineers on projects.
