Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design comprehensive fire protection systems for federal and commercial projects. You will lead life safety analyses, develop water supply and hydraulic calculations, and prepare detailed design documents.

You will review drafts for compliance, collaborate with sales on proposals, and mentor junior engineers on multidisciplinary projects. The role offers a hybrid work model across multiple U.S. offices and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline; PE license preferred.
• 7 years of related experience; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience with federal projects, life safety and NFPA/UFC knowledge.
• Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools and life safety system design.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs including sprinkler, suppression, pumps and alarms.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects and ensure life safety compliance.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC and local regulations.
• Collaborate with sales to create proposals and respond to RFPs.
• Mentor junior staff and supervise engineers on projects.
• Meet with clients to review design needs and outcomes.
