Job summary

HITACHI ENERGY USA INC in Cary, North Carolina, seeks a FACTS Controls Engineer to join our Power Quality Solutions team. You will design, implement, and commission advanced control algorithms for FACTS applications, and work with MACH control system to meet customer and project requirements.

The role offers a hybrid schedule 3–4 days onsite, collaboration with global teams, and opportunities to work on power electronics and grid modernization projects with a focus on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Theory, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of controls engineering experience, preferably within power systems applications.
• 2+ years of programming experience across multiple environments and languages.
• Experience designing and testing PI, PID, or similar control algorithms.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, control theory, and power electronics applications.
• Experience with MATLAB, real-time simulators, or similar modeling and simulation tools.
• FACTS, HVDC, or utility power systems experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain control algorithms for FACTS applications.
• Program and configure the MACH control system to meet customer and project requirements.
• Perform control logic development, debugging, testing, and deployment activities.
• Conduct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using real-time simulators.
• Create models and simulations for power electronics and power system applications.
• Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning activities, and site startup efforts.
• Collaborate with project teams, customers, and global engineering groups to deliver successful project outcomes.
