Job summary

Southern Company Services is seeking an AI Engineer (Levels 5-7) in the Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA area, with 4 days in-office and 1 day remote. You will design and evolve AI solutions that translate complex use cases into production-ready agents, models, and workflows within enterprise data environments.

You will collaborate across AI delivery, ML Ops, and governance to ensure safe, scalable deployments, while optimizing performance, cost, and reliability in a critical infrastructure setting.

Qualifications

• Experience building AI and machine learning applications in enterprise settings.
• Practical understanding of agentic AI concepts including planners, tool‑calling, memory, and multi‑agent collaboration.
• Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and APIs for structured, unstructured, and document data.
• Awareness of AI governance, risk, and compliance in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI solutions by building agents that reason, plan, and act using models, tools, and enterprise data.
• Translate business requirements into end‑to‑end AI workflows including data ingestion, inference, tool execution, and human‑in‑the‑loop review.
• Embed safety, validation, and explainability into agent logic and prompts.
• Collaborate with architects and ML Ops to ensure deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Optimize prompts, models, and interactions to improve accuracy, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Prototype new AI capabilities while aligning with enterprise deployment standards.
• Use feedback and operational signals to refine agent performance over time.
