Job summary

Duke Energy in Castle Hayne, NC is hiring an Engineering Technologist III for a hybrid full-time role. The position supports technical problem solving in the field with leadership to guide work in a specialized area. Requires a STEM degree and multiple years of utility-related experience.

Ideal candidates have field safety experience, customer-facing design exposure, and proficiency with work order tools such as DesignLite, MAXIMO, SEDS and AutoCAD. Travel is 5-15%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 2+ years of relevant experience, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
• Has a valid driver’s license
• Experience with Work Order Design Tools, especially DesignLite, BOUD, Maximo, SEDS, or AutoCAD
• Electric Utility Distribution Experience, especially with customer-facing design work
• Experience with Damage Assessment during storms
• Comfortable working safely in the field and driving as a lone worker
• Has experience working with customers and construction crews

Responsibilities

• Provides deep technical expertise to solve complex problems and leadership to oversee work in a specific area.
• Plans, organizes, estimates, schedules, and monitors work activities to meet goals.
• Independently prepares technical reports, calculations and sketches.
• Conducts engineering and related studies and maintains accurate records.
• Develops positive working relationships to coordinate activities and communicate effectively.
