Job summary

Duke Energy is hiring an Engineering Technologist III to provide advanced technical support and leadership in a specific engineering area. The role involves solving complex problems, overseeing work, and developing independence in technical tasks.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology with 2+ years of experience, or 4+ years with an Associate degree, or 6+ years without a degree. Some field visits and travel are expected in a hybrid mobility environment.

The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

• Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
• Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
• Conducts engineering and related studies
• Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills

Basic/Required Qualifications (Engineering Technologist III)

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 2+ years of relevant experience, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
• Has a valid driver’s license
• Electric Utility Distribution Experience, especially with customer-facing design work
• Experience with Damage Assessment during storms
• Comfortable working safely in the field and driving as a lone worker
• Has experience working with customers and construction crews
• Experience using Work Order Design Tools, especially DesignLite, BOUD, Maximo, SEDS, or AutoCAD
