Job summary

Motorola Solutions in Melville, NY is seeking an experienced firmware and software engineer to join our rapid, collaborative team. The role focuses on R&D/design, manufacturing, and customer support, with hybrid in-office work in the Greater NY area.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in C/C++ for embedded applications, Linux on ARM, and strong OS and networking knowledge, plus experience with CI/CD, Git, and LabVIEW/Visual Studio for test tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
• Hands-on experience in embedded systems development.
• 7+ years of experience in C and C++ design and programming for embedded applications.
• Proven experience developing in a Linux environment for ARM target processors.
• Solid understanding of operating system concepts, including processes, threads, mutexes, and exception handling.
• In-depth understanding of embedded design principles, including C/C++ memory management, microprocessor architectures, instruction efficiency, and I/O timing.
• Knowledge of TCP and UDP networking protocols
• Familiarity with automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment pipelines
• Extensive experience with build systems, especially CMake, and with compilers and related toolchains.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python), build systems, and version control systems (e.g., Git).

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust multi-threaded software in C++, Linux, Python, and C# for high-speed data processing.
• Develop embedded firmware in C for microcontrollers, with RTOS support.
• Create, automate, and document QA tests to validate firmware/software releases.
• Develop GUI software in LabVIEW or Visual Studio for test fixtures.
• Develop algorithms for image acquisition parameters and efficiency.
• Analyze and optimize system performance and debugging.
• Provide task plans and accurate effort estimates to management.
• Produce design documentation for software architecture and tests.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers during bring-up and debugging.
• Contribute to code reviews and CI/CD workflows; use Git.
