Bay Area Legal Services in New Port Richey is seeking a full-time Elder Law Staff Attorney to assist seniors with civil legal needs, including public benefits, Social Security matters, Medicare/Medicaid, housing, probate, and life planning.

The role involves counseling clients, representing them in court, and collaborating with a team under the Team Leader. The position is hybrid, with three days in the office and two days remote.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active Florida Bar license in good standing.
• At least 1 year of Public Benefits, Housing, or Elder Law experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with seniors and community outreach.
• Ability to work well in a team and meet deadlines.
• Experience with legal databases to document case assignments.

Responsibilities

• Advice and assistance by telephone and in person with Seniors seeking services.
• Interview applicants and determine if eligibility requirements for established legal services are satisfied.
• Counsel, advise and refer clients to public agencies or community resources.
• Represent clients in court including emergency advocacy as needed.
• Explain legal options and outcomes to clients.
• Prepare pleadings, dispositions, briefs, and oral arguments when needed.
• Research relevant legal materials and analyze evidence.
• Negotiate settlements with opposing attorneys or parties.
• Prepare correspondence and document case information in the CMS.
• Ensure compliance with grantor requirements and maintain client relations.
• Travel to client meetings or hearings and supervise staff as needed.
