Job summary

Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) seeks a Distribution Power Engineer to develop overhead and underground distribution designs for a variety of utility projects. You will lead design work from customer requirements through construction-ready deliverables, collaborating with utility clients, developers, contractors, and internal teams while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Experience in electric utility distribution engineering or distribution design, including support of new business, new service, or system improvement projects.
Working knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
Experience designing residential, commercial, and industrial electric services and distribution facilities.
Understanding of utility construction standards, engineering design principles, and NESC requirements.
Ability to interpret utility specifications, construction standards, electrical drawings, maps, and site plans.
Familiarity with distribution equipment including transformers, conductors, poles, underground facilities, protective devices, and service equipment.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

Develop overhead and underground electric distribution designs for residential, commercial, industrial, and utility infrastructure projects.
Design new customer service connections, system extensions, relocations, upgrades, and distribution system improvements.
Review customer load requirements and determine appropriate distribution facilities, equipment sizing, and service configurations.
Conduct or support field investigations, site assessments, pole inspections, and route evaluations to gather project data and validate design requirements.
Prepare construction-ready design packages, engineering drawings, material takeoffs, cost estimates, and supporting project documentation.
Coordinate with utility personnel, developers, customers, contractors, permitting agencies, and other project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Apply utility standards, engineering best practices, NESC requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements while supporting projects through construction and closeout.
