Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Mastery-level Distribution Designer at multiple levels to deliver distribution design for commercial, industrial, residential, and internal customers. You will act as the primary design contact, balance customer needs with standards, and coordinate with construction teams.

Travel may be required and after-hours support may be needed during emergencies. Roles range from Designer I to Principal Distribution Designer with salaries aligned to hourly pay bands.

Qualifications

• Assoc. Degree in drafting/design/automation/electronics/mechatronics/engineering/GIS or related field; in lieu of degree, education/experience in design/drafting/construction/project management/electronics providing equivalent knowledge.
• 2+ years’ experience as a Designer I or equivalent.
• Proficient in GIS, design software, work management programs, and related systems.
• Knowledge of construction standards, materials, and technical codes.
• Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Design safe operating facilities for new and existing customers per Xcel Energy standards; provide distribution design project management across all design areas.
• Manage projects from initial customer contact through post-project analysis; coordinate construction work plan to meet schedule and budget.
• Mentor and train Designers; demonstrate leadership to drive teamwork across groups.
• Represent the Company with government officials, contractors, city agencies, vendors, architects, and engineers.
• Collaborate to set direction and achieve departmental goals.
• Obtain permits and easements; execute contracts in compliance with regulations.
