Job summary

Stanford University’s DECO program seeks a Research and Program Manager to advance a cross-disciplinary research portfolio bridging knowledge and action across disease ecology. You will lead diverse teams, design research approaches, manage stakeholder collaborations, and help grow the program through proposals, budgets, and strategic partnerships.

The role is fixed-term for two years with potential extension based on funding, and offers hybrid work on Stanford’s main campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field with four years of relevant work experience; or Master’s with two years; or PhD in a related field.
• Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
• Expert level knowledge and skills in a field related to the research project.
• General computer skills, databases and scientific applications, and ability to learn programs quickly.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete detailed work accurately.
• Developing project management skills.
• PhD in disease ecology or a relevant field (preferred).
• Experience engaging with global non-academic partners and stakeholders, managing complex programs.
• Experience with project management tools for large research endeavors.
• Experience working with university administrators to support research goals.
• Experience in data analysis, mapping, remote sensing, and synthesis.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Spanish language skills (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing multidisciplinary teams across disciplines or schools and external research partners, advancing multiple DECO projects.
• Designing and leading research approaches for the entire program, including background research, experimental design and execution, and drafting manuscripts.
• Deploying community- and partner-engaged approaches to manage stakeholder collaborations and produce co-created outcomes.
• Developing new protocols; testing and evaluating a variety of approaches.
• Conceptualizing and drafting new research proposals and budgets to expand the program’s scope and scale.
• Preparing periodic progress reports on all phases of the program.
• Contributing original ideas of major methodologies to alter the course of the investigation.
• Performing ongoing literature review and implementing new techniques in research projects.
• Representing DECO in stakeholder meetings.
• Providing scientific and coordination support to the DECO Faculty Directors.
• Integrating with the Center for Human and Planetary Health leadership.
• Leading DECO program management and coordination activities, including stakeholder meetings, team meetings, knowledge-management systems, presentations, supervising students, and communications.
