Job summary

The Design Manager at Mott MacDonald leads multidisciplinary design delivery on major projects, ensuring technical integrity, schedule adherence, and cost control. You’ll work with the Project Manager and Discipline Leads to define standards, manage interfaces, and drive timely resolutions through IDRs.

Based in North America with a hybrid in-office pattern, you will collaborate with clients, the Authority, and the supply chain, balancing excellence with practical project constraints to achieve

Responsibilities

• Prepare design fee estimate and preliminary schedule for proposal phase
• Act as accountable design authority for technical coherence and design solutions
• Provide design team with contract materials to deliver within budget and schedule
• Confirm that design delivers project aims, objectives and benefits
• Provide Discipline Leads with interface, coordination matrix and accountability
• Support PM with WBS, CBS and OBS alignment of design with milestones
• Monitor design budget and identify variances
• Enforce quality processes and ensure peer reviews across disciplines
• Support Discipline Leads with resource planning and succession planning
• Lead multidisciplinary discussions to resolve technical issues
• Prepare, manage and distribute design standards and requirements
• Interface with contractor's Design Coordinator on technical matters
• Interface with Client Owner and Authority Having Jurisdiction
• Maintain communication with stakeholders to meet contractual obligations
• Manage design variances from standards and secure approvals
• Manage project Technical Requirements register
• Coordinate subconsultant and specialist inputs
• Ensure design checking and approval processes are completed
• Coordinate completion, review and issue of technical deliverables
• Support identification of design changes and cost estimates
• Identify and mitigate design risks and issues
• Lead Design Review Meetings and Interdisciplinary Design Reviews
