Job summary

Rheem North America in Montgomery, AL is seeking a Design Engineer I to design, maintain and improve products within its North America operations. The role supports a hybrid schedule with in-office Monday-Thursday and remote Fridays, focusing on mechanical design and certification coordination.

You will analyze sketches, perform layouts, and coordinate engineering changes while ensuring compliance with agency standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills; able to work in a matrix team.
• Experience in appliance design and change processes preferred; understands certification standards.
• Proficient with SolidWorks and engineering software; occasional travel required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Analyze sketches, specs and data to determine design factors such as size and arrangement.
• Sketch layouts and compute dimensions, tolerances and locations of holes.
• Coordinate and verify engineering changes prior to release to production.
• Investigate design problems, document findings and implement improvements.
• Review designs for compliance with standards and customer requirements.
• Develop agency submittals and coordinate testing with labs.
