Merchants Insurance Group, based in Buffalo, NY, seeks a Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant to join its Corporate Central Operation team. The role supports setting up new business, quotes, renewals and endorsements in the policy system with a hybrid schedule requiring two in-office days weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• 1+ years’ work experience in an Insurance Company or Agency.
• Prior experience in insurance rating and knowledge of insurance terms.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Computer experience including Microsoft Word experience.
• ImageRight knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries from agents regarding policy ratings and billing status.
• Updates rating information, verifies policy information, and works with the underwriting team to meet service standards and company goals.
• Reviews loss control surveys to verify policy exposures for proper rating.
• Assist in the achievement of commercial lines loss ratio objectives for the assigned territory.
• Assist in the achievement of commercial lines production goals for the assigned territory.
