Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group, a leading Property and Casualty insurer, seeks a Commercial Lines Underwriter for its underwriting team in Melville, NY. You will collaborate with agency partners to deliver professional service that drives profitable growth for Merchants and its partners.

The role emphasizes building relationships, adhering to underwriting standards, and achieving regional production goals while offering a hybrid work schedule with two in-office days per week.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred or 5 years commercial experience within an agency environment.
• Property and Casualty insurance related coursework is a plus i.e. CPCU.
• Strong background in commercial lines accounts and building relationships.
• Previous Agency relationships within the local insurance industry are highly desirable.
• Microsoft Office knowledge as well as the ability to work with internal company systems (WINS, ImageRight etc.).
• Strong communication, organizational and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Cultivating solid relationships with Agents and internal staff while working towards achieving the most optimal outcomes for Merchants and our policyholders.
• Works with the underwriting assistant to ensure adherence to corporate underwriting policy and service standards.
• Reviews accounts beyond individual authority with the Regional Underwriting Manager or Supervisor and recommends a course of action.
• Achieve commercial lines regional production goals and loss ratio objectives for assigned territory.

We offer a hybrid work schedule, requiring two full days per week in the office, with flexibility to work remotely or onsite the remaining days. This model supports collaboration while providing flexibility and work-life balance.

Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:

Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The estimated salary for this role ranges from $75,000 - $110,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience and qualifications.
