Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant to join our Corporate Central Operations team. You will support setting up new business, quotes, renewals and endorsements in our policy writing system.

The role requires 1+ years in insurance, strong communication, and familiarity with rating concepts. Hybrid work with two in-office days per week, offering flexibility for the remaining days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• 1+ years’ work experience in an Insurance Company or Agency.
• Experience in insurance rating and knowledge of insurance terms.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word; ImageRight knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries from agents regarding policy ratings and billing status.
• Updates rating information and verifies policy details with underwriting team.
• Reviews loss control surveys to verify policy exposures.
• Assists in achieving commercial lines loss ratio objectives and production goals.
