Job summary

Michigan Farm Bureau is seeking an experienced Underwriter to evaluate risks for Farm Bureau Insurance agents and help determine appropriate coverages in collaboration with field partners. The role requires strong knowledge of P/C markets, plus formal credentials and an active MI license.

The hybrid position is based in Lansing, MI, offering a full benefits package and the opportunity to work both remotely from the Greater Lansing area and at the Farm Bureau Center in Lansing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or insurance required.
• At least 5 years' commercial insurance or independent agency experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• CIC, ChFC and/or LUTCF designation or actively pursuing.
• Active MI property/casualty license or must obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate/examine/inspect risks submitted for coverage by agents.
• Accept, modify or reject risks based on guidelines, inspections and claims info.
• Classify, verify insurance amounts and premium development for various risks.
• Provide underwriting information to agents and answer questions.
