Job summary

CCAP is hiring a WIC Peer Counselor to empower breastfeeding mothers within the WIC program. The role focuses on serving referred prenatal and postpartum participants, offering guidance, information, and practical support to encourage breastfeeding success.

Candidates should have been a WIC participant themselves, with strong verbal and written communication and a passion for helping families. Bilingual Spanish skills are highly preferred, and the position is part-time with local site coverage.

Qualifications

• Must have been on the WIC program.
• Breastfed at least one child for 6 months.
• Interest in promoting breastfeeding and working for WIC.
• Extensive verbal and written communication with patients.

Responsibilities

• Initiate contact with referred prenatal women within 2 weeks of referral.
• Assess woman’s knowledge of breastfeeding and address barriers.
• Help women make informed feeding choices without judgment.
• Make a minimum of 2 contacts with all referred prenatal participants.
• Contact breastfeeding participants as soon after delivery as possible.
• Follow up on referrals within specified timeframes.
• Document counseling interactions in the participant chart within 2 weeks.
