Job summary

Matrix Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to join our hybrid team in Minneapolis, MN.

You will design, program, test, and commission PLC-based control systems across multiple industries, collaborating with senior engineers and external clients to deliver robust automation solutions. The role requires PLC/HMI programming experience, ABET‑accredited engineering credentials, and travel about 25%.

Qualifications

• Four or more years’ experience as an Industrial Automation Engineer or equivalent.
• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of four years of PLC/HMI programming, automation, electrical troubleshooting and start-up experience.
• Preference for Allen-Bradley, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Aveva experience.
• Experience with motion control including VFD and servo systems is a plus.
• Willingness to travel ~25% (local and overnight).

Responsibilities

• Assist the project team with software development for PLC-based control systems including HMI screens.
• Support preparing functional specs, test specs, PLC code, and HMI graphics.
• Perform software Factory Acceptance Tests and on-site commissioning/start-up.
• Assist with control system upgrades, expansions, or new deployments.
• Prepare project correspondence and maintain client relationships.
• Collaborate with external clients and internal engineering disciplines.
