Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Financial Reimbursement Specialist in Columbia, MD for a full-time, hybrid role after a 90-day probation. The position focuses on thorough patient account follow-up, payer communications, and timely AR reporting as part of the revenue cycle for MedSTAR Transport services.

Responsibilities include meeting KPIs, preparing AR analysis, handling corrections and appeals, and training staff.

Qualifications

• 3-4 years of medical billing/collection experience.
• Knowledge of medical billing processes.
• One year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of department goals and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
• Keeps abreast of regulatory changes related to billing requirements and payer follow up; communicates such changes to management.
• Assists management in preparation of monthly accounts receivable analysis for financial review with Transport management.
• Meets monthly departmental KPIs for days in A/R, open receivables, aged A/R, cash collections and high-dollar accounts.
• Provides training and technical assistance to employees as requested by management.
• Distributes and monitors workflow and responsibilities to ensure timely follow up of accounts receivable.
• Performs timely and accurate adjustments in the billing system; reconciles accounts and submits claims as applicable.
• Prepares and submits appeals timely and in accordance with payer specifications.
• Meets departmental productivity for number of outstanding A/R cases each month; aims to touch each account once.
• Enters comments in the billing system detailing work performed for each account.
