Job summary

Torrington Savings seeks an ACH Exceptions Specialist to lead accurate, timely processing of ACH exceptions, returns, and disputes. This role serves as the bank’s ACH expert, guiding departments while ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management across daily operations.

The specialist will provide guidance on Nacha Rules, Regulation E, and related policies, and will participate in system enhancements and training to strengthen the Payments Operations team.

Qualifications

• Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification required.
• Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) certification preferred.
• Extensive experience in ACH operations, exceptions, processing, and Nacha Rules.
• Strong understanding of Regulation E and ACH error-resolution requirements.
• Ability to research complex ACH transactions and determine proper actions.
• Experience with ACH in a core banking or payment processing system.
• Customer-focused with strong analytical and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end daily processing of ACH exception activity per Nacha Rules and regulatory requirements.
• Research and process death notification entries and post-death government benefits when needed.
• Process Notices of Change (NOCs) ensuring account information updates are communicated.
• Resolve originated ACH returns and errors with Treasury Services and Loan Operations.
• Verify pre-notification entries and returns with invalid account/payee information.
• Balance and reconcile daily ACH settlement General Ledger and resolve discrepancies.
• Investigate unauthorized or erroneous ACH debits with appropriate actions.
• Manage WSUD process and related return activity within required timeframes.
• Apply Nacha requirements, SEC codes, and return codes for unauthorized ACHs.
• Escalate legal/compliance/operational risk concerns as appropriate.
• Maintain records supporting ACH disputes and returns.
